Blogs ????

Blogs are really good fun! You can document stuff, share your thoughts and other people can provide you with tips on how to get certain things done. And yes, people do give loads of encouragement too :) Hey, those world clocks on Paul's blog are really cool and I am going to ask him to share this with me (PLEASE!). Am also wondering how to go about having you know, like a newslink or something on my blog, maybe to the Straits Times or to Stomp or something so that I can get updates right on my blog.

I am not really sure what to do with pics uploaded on Flickr yet. Do I get my students to go take photos and then I upload them on Mel and maybe, other students can comment on the pictures (in wiki?) Maybe, I could tell the students to go find examples of interesting store names/shop fronts, which make a shop stand out or something.... I could use these as examples of product differentiation in Monopolistic Competition. Or perhaps, you know, to get students to take pictures of crowds at the Robinson's Sale or at Sitex, to show the law of demand or that the demand for electronic items like PCs, cameras and such tend to be income inelastic. hmmmm... something along those lines.. I think it's so true that a picture speaks a thousand words..

Posting a You tube video

My students searched Youtube and showed this to their classmates during tutorial 2 weeks ago. This is a good illustration of the law of diminishing marginal returns. As we all know, everyone has only one brain, so if you do last minute cramming and study last minute, it's not going to get you good grades!

This one is done by me, after I learnt how to do "blending" of oil pastels from my son! (Ahem... that was years ago..!)

I really like this one - especially the fiery sunset in the background. My son must have been like just 6 when he did this on a whim.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

Week 2 - Thing 1 (Continued....)

Today, I created my first avatar. Had great fun choosing big eyes and a nice hairdo for myself. Took a while to find the HTML/Java Script to paste the code for the avatar that I had created. Realised that you need to "add gadget" before clicking on the HTML/Java Script.

Now, I am one up on my son :) He doesn't have an avatar on his page :)

Week 1, Thing 1

I am really excited about learning about Web 2.0 technologies! Yes, I want to find out more about new teaching and learning tools for the future. How students learn online, how they interact/socialise with online communities, how they create and share knowledge, how they collaborate in learning, etc. Yes, this is one learning journey that is going to be so refreshing! It's never too old for anyone to learn something, it's really all in the mind. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks???

Am feeling pretty pleased today that I have successfully created a blog for recording my learning journey over the next couple of months :)
